Sweet little slice of Mexicana. Order at the counter then find a table but be sure to visit the salsa bar. Staff is bilingual of course and their menu diverse. We ordered a super burrito and chicken enchiladas and they were both fantastic

Top stop for delicious chile verde and carnitas! Chile verde burrito is outstanding and the carnitas on a torta is my favorite. Also "taco Tuesdays" are a favorite. Great selection of salsas from the salsa bar. Fast friendly service .

Taqueria Sonora is located in downtown Sonora, CA and serves fine Mexican cuisine every day of the week. For the 55th Annual Columbia Father's Day Fly-In, located in nearby Columbia, the restaurant set up a pop-up booth and served three varieties of street tacos, quesadillas, soft drinks, along with all of your favorite condiments, and corn tortilla chips. I'm writing this review about the pop-up restaurant at the fly-in, not the brick and mortar restaurant located downtown. You order from the small menu, and when your order is ready - about a minute - you go around to the back of the restaurant to the chips and condiments bar and dress your tacos the way you like them. You can scoop a big side of chips on your plate too. I went with two "Street Tacos" and my choice of protein was carne asada. I took a trip to the chips and salsa bar, and really dressed out my tacos, in style, and added a side of corn chips and salsa. Why are these called "street tacos?" Because they are nearly identical to tacos sold on the streets of every village, town and city in Mexico. My choice of meat was carne asada and each taco contained a very generous helping of juicy, marinated, chopped and thinly sliced grilled carne asada meat, which truly got the tacos going. The carne asada was placed on top of two small, perfectly grilled corn tortillas, each the size of a DVD, which made the foundation for a couple of great tacos. The tacos were "bare of condiments," as the condiment and chip bar was behind the restaurant. I found the salsa and chip bar to be amazing well-stocked, with a wide selection of goodies, all kept fresh and cold thanks to many bags of ice. The selection of chips and condiments rivaled the selection in a sit-down restaurant! I love to heap as much in the way of condiments on my tacos as I can, and today was no exception. From the plentiful condiment bar, I added chopped cilantro, pico de gallo, avocado crema, diced white onion, along with a sliced, pickled jalapeno pepper. One bite into my first taco truly reminded me of the many "street tacos" I've enjoyed during my many travels to Mexico. The carne asada meat was perfectly grilled, tender, juicy and bursting with flavor. The condiments were fresh, delicious and enhanced the fine tacos I enjoyed for an early lunch. Each taco held together well, thanks to the two corn tortillas, which is the way "street tacos" are made on the streets of Mexico. The corn tortilla chips were fresh, warm and made for a perfect side to the amazing tacos. I added salsa rojo on the side for dipping. Muy sabroso! The tacos were simply delicious, authentic, Mexican "street tacos" which made for a delightful beginning to an enjoyable day at the 55th Annual Columbia Father's Day Fly-in, held at the Columbia, CA airport. Such delicious tacos and friendly service! When you're attending local Tuolumne County events, and you see Taqueria Sonora, grab a taco or two, and enjoy FIVE STAR dining.

We dined in this time after having catering last time. The food was outstanding, and the hot sauce selection was like I've never seen. Counter service, but really friendly. Locals eat and work here. We'll be back for sure for catering and dining.

Taqueria Sonora Taqueria Sonora was a great find. It was the small mom-and-pop type hole-in-the-wall that I live and breathe for. I went with a super lengua burrito and a tripe taco. The tripe was perfectly fried and tucked into two tortillas and smothered with a delicious salsa. The burrito was awesome, the lengua was perfectly cooked and flavored. The burrito did fall apart towards the end, but I devoured everything!! My wife went with the flautas that looked more like taquitos to me. She felt that they were good for taquitos, but did not satisfy her craving for flautas since taquitos and flautas are two very different dishes. The taquitos came with rice and beans which were really good. They also came with a side salad that had very spicy dressing that my wife was not able to eat. All in all, she enjoyed her meal.
